REGARDING UKRAINE RELIEF BY THE KRAKÓW FOOD BANK

As a direct result of the russian aggression on Ukrainian territory millions of Ukrainians were forced to flee their homes and seek safety in other regions of the country, as well as beyond its borders. Many have bravely decided to stay and actively support their military, and to endure the difficult conditions and limited means of satisfying basic needs. The extent of suffering is staggering, the tragedy affects Ukrainian citizens, but also their animal companions.

The Krakow Food Bank aims to support the Ukrainian population with the food aid necessary for survival. We have been cooperating towards this end with Polish and Ukrainian partner organizations — NGOs with their own networks of contacts and distribution.

A total of 619.52 tons of humanitarian aid worth  $1,840,684 – has been provided by Krakow Food Bank to Ukrainian citizens since the beginning of the full-scale aggression until the end of 2023.

Help for Ukrainian refugees in Poland

Currently there are around 50,000 refugees in Kraków, and their situation is often more than dire. They lack the means to satisfy basic needs, which often results in drastic food insecurity.  The galloping inflation and rising prices have also had a negative impact on the financial state of Polish citizens, who thus are less able to donate to refugee aid. Many NGOs which have started out offering help to Ukrainians have shut down due to a lack of funding for food purchases.

We deliver food packages to their end recipients through a network of partner organizations, as well as a  Kraków Food Bank stationary reception point established in July 2022.

The food we deliver is sourced from donations made by producers, distributors and store chains, Europan Union FEAD Programme, the Polish Federation of Food Banks and the European Federation of Food Banks, as well as public collections organized at supermarkets and companies.

The military situation in Ukraine is far from resolved yet, which in all likelihood means that aiding Ukrainian refugees residing in Poland will have to continue to be a priority for the Krakow Food Bank.

So far, as of 12/31/2023, have been able to help an estimated total of 19,000 Ukrainian citizens and their families. We have delivered 448 tons of food, which can be translated to 1,120,000 meals. In Kraków, our food distribution point has given out 10,000 packages. The food we have delivered has a total worth of $1,218,957.54. This aid has been passed on to 57 partner organizations who helped distribute it among the refugees.

The generosity of our donors enabled us to purchase more than 100 tons of the most vital foods for people. The list of products to be included in our packages has been put together based on the needs submitted by Ukrainian organizations. Apart from food, we have also been able to provide hygiene materials, cosmetics, disinfectants and other everyday products.

So far, as of 12/31/2023, we have delivered  124,22  tons of food, which amounts to 310,555 meals delivered in 12,500 packages. The total cost of the delivered food was $391,800 . We have distributed 46.32 tons of pet foods and non-food products of a total worth of $229,926 . This is the equivalent of 400,000 meals for cats and 110,000 meals for dogs. All of this adds up to a total of 171.52 tons of help delivered, with a total worth of $621,726.
