Workforce volunteering

The activities of the Food Bank in Krakow are possible thanks to the help of volunteers who contribute their knowledge, skills, and abilities. Through their work and sensitivity to the surrounding world, we can fulfill our mission and expand the areas of our activities. The Food Bank in Krakow collaborates with Krakow-based companies in implementing various forms of corporate volunteering.

Current workforce volunteering opportunities

1. Packaging food at the Food Bank’s warehouse

This programme consists of the team of volunteers working at the Kraków Food Bank’s main warehouse, putting together food packages for the underserved in Poland and Ukraine.

We work in groups of 8 to 12 volunteers, packaging around 200 food parcels, 15 kg each, during a 4-hour session.

This form of volunteering can be performed on any weekday between 8am and 3pm, after prior arrangement.

Requirements

This form of volunteering requires a grant or donation to cover the costs of food to package.

30,000 PLN per volunteering session – 200 food parcels

150 PLN per food package – up 15 kg

The Kraków Food Bank’s main source of food products are donations from food producers and distributors, which come at no cost to the Bank. The content of these donations is dependent on what products happen to be close to the end of their shelf life, or available for donating for other reasons. Typically, we receive large quantities of a single product, e.g. multiple pallets of canned fish.

Food packages, however, are meant to provide a well-rounded set of products to the recipients, the food needs to be purchased, for the most part at market prices. This is why this form of volunteering carries the financial cost that it does.

2. The Kraków Food Drive

This initiative, organized by the Kraków Food Bank along with the Municipality of Kraków, takes place every year in October and lasts for 5 days.

It consists of our corporate and institutional partners creating teams to organize food drives at their offices. These teams are in charge of organizing and implementing the food drives, ensuring that the donated food contains as many products with a long shelf life as possible, advising on what products to donate,as well as delivering the collected food to the Food Bank warehouse.

The Kraków Food Bank provides the materials needed for the food drives, including branded cardboard boxes, posters and promotional materials for social media. If needed, the Food Bank can also arrange for a pick-up of the food collected.

Requirements

To participate in this form of volunteering, it is enough to apply for participation at the Kraków Food Bank.

3. Food Drives at Supermarkets

This form of volunteering consists of conducting a food drive at one of the supermarkets in Kraków. The volunteering organization provides a team to pass out informational materials, collect donations from store clients, and advise on the types of products most suitable for donations.

We conduct these activities twice a year, once in November and once in the spring, around Easter. The food drives go on for two consecutive days, typically on Friday and Saturday.

The Kraków Food Bank is in charge of arranging the supermarkets to conduct the food drives at, promoting the initiative, delivering posters and fliers, as well as arranging pick-ups of the collected food from the supermarkets.

Requirements

This form of voluntary work requires the committed organisation to provide volunteers for an all-day food drive at the arranged supermarket, as well as to coordinate the implementation of the initiative.

4. The Good Store

“Dobry Sklep”, which translates to “The Good Store”, is a Kraków Food Bank initiative that allows the underprivileged population of our region to obtain food supplies free of charge.

We need volunteers to help with passing out the food to recipients, stock the store shelves and advise clients on choosing the right food products.

The Good Store is open from Monday to Friday. Each volunteering session takes 4 hours, between 9am and 1pm, with one or two volunteers working at the same time. This form of volunteering is available all year round.

Requirements

Working knowledge of Polish.
