The Kraków Food Bank was established in 1997, and has since collected over 79,000 tons of food products, with a total worth of zł 337m.
The Food Bank’s mission is to combat food scarcity and food waste. The Bank collects food from producers, distributors and supermarket chains. We also organize cyclical food collections: the Easter collection, the Christmas collection and the Kraków collection. The Bank also implements EU food aid programmes aimed at the underserved segment of the population.
With the help of over 200 partner organisations the Kraków Food Bank delivers food to tens of thousands of underserved recipients in Kraków and in the Lesser Poland region more generally. The amount of food delivered each year amounts to around 8 million meals.
Some results of our work in 2023:
- 2,448,920 kg of food delivered to the food insecure,
- 414,165 kg of food delivered as part of the EU programme,
- 2,034,755 kg of food saved from being wasted,
- 72,500 recipients served,
- 209 partner organisations,
- $7,857,712 worth of food delivered.
Our core approach is preventing food from being wasted. Thanks to this, each złoty donated to us can result in as much as 6 meals delivered to the food insecure, which makes us one of the most effective grant recipients in Poland.
Funds collected through the 1.5% initiative will support our logistical and operational expenses: electricity costs, warehouse operations, vehicle and warehouse maintenance, print of communication materials and flyers used at food collections.
